History

Pampoenkraal (from the Dutch pampoen meaning pumpkin, and kraal meaning an enclosure for livestock), now better known as Durbanville, was founded early in 1800 around a spring and served mainly as a watering station for travelers between Cape Town and the interior of South Africa.

Pampoenkraal Wedding and Function venue is situated on Altydgedacht Wine Estate, which dates back to 1698 and lies on the slopes of the Tygerberg Hills.
