Reservations: History In 1806 a town was established around Pampoenkraal. In 1836 the town was renamed, D'Urban, to honour the governor of the Cape, Sir Benjamin D'Urban, and in 1886 it was finally named Durbanville.The town is situated in the Tygerberg Hills, about 30 km north-east of Cape Town, at 168 m above sea level, and has a population of about 40 000 residents. The Durbanville Wine Route starts here.Today, about 25% of the farmers in this area are vineyard owners and most of the farms lie on the eastern slopes of the Tygerberg Hills. |
